13 JULY 2015: FMRS to participate in SCERIN-3 Capacity Building Workshop

FMRS participates in SCERIN-3 Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) to be held in Brașov, Romania (13-17 July 2015).

SCERIN (originally SEERIN) is one of the GOFC-GOLD regional networks. It encourages collaboration between scientists and other professionals that are based (or have a scientific interest) in the region of South Eastern and Central Europe.

30 JUNE 2015: National Forest Observatory - 3rd Advisory Board Meeting

The meeting will take place at the premises of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment, Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr. Jesus San Miguel (DG JRC) who will join the meeting is expected to help the Advisory Board Members understand the importance of national efforts such as NFO - ΕΠαΔ and the way they can contribute to the Forest Information System for Europe (FISE).

12 JUNE 2015: FMRS to participate in the 'Spatio-temporal analysis' summer school

Two members of FMRS, namely, Christos Kalogeropoulos and Thomas Katagis to participate in the 'SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS AND BIG DATA PROCESSING USING FREE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE' summer school to be held in Matera, Italy (15 - 20 June 2015).

08 JUNE 2015: The PE&RS Special Issue on GEOBIA is now available online

The June 2015 (Volume 81, Number 6) issue of the PHOTOGRAMMETRIC ENGINEERING & REMOTE SENSING is based on selected articles that were presented during the GEOBIA 2014 conference that was hosted by FMRS in Thessaloniki, Greece.

04 JUNE 2015: The ArcFUEL in the 'Best' LIFE Environment Projects 2014

The 'ArcFUEL - Mediterranean fuel maps geodatabase for wildland & forest fire safety' (LIFE Environment) project, in which FMRS was a partner, is included in the 'Best' LIFE Environment Projects 2014.

A 'Best LIFE Environment projects' award was presented to the ArcFUEL project consortium by Karl Falkenberg (Director-General, DG Environment) during the Green Week 2015 'LIFE Best Projects Awards' event.

The 2015 edition of the Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, took place from 3-5 June at The Egg, Brussels.


26 MAY 2015: CNR-IREA team visits FMRS within the framework of the ERMES FP7 project

Four members of CNR-IREA are visiting FMRS and the Cereal Institute of DEMETER within the framework of the ERMES FP7 SPACE project. The meetings focus on the refinement of the objectives of the 2nd year of the project.

22 MAY 2015: The SPLIT RS 2015 Summer School was succesfully completed

The SPLIT RS 2015 Summer School, hosted by FMRS, was succesfully completed. The SPLIT RS 2016 was announced to be held at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh).

08 May 2015: Greek Forest Service senior officials to visit FMRS

A delegation of Greek Forest Service senior officials, including the General Director Mr. Kostas Dimopoulos, to visit FMRS in order to discuss about the National Forest Observatory (ΕΠαΔ) and the National Observatory of Forest Fires (ΕΠΑΔΑΠ) projects.

07-08 May 2015: FMRS to present ΕΠαΔ at the 23rd National ESRI Users Conference

FMRS to participate in the 23rd National ESRI Users Conference, held by Marathon Data Systems in Athens on 7 and 8 May 2015. The FMRS team will present the main objectives and current activities of the project National Forest Observatory. The work, titled “Πιλοτική Εφαρμογή και Λειτουργία του Εθνικού Παρατηρητηρίου Δασών (ΕΠαΔ)” will be presented on Friday, May 8th (12:30-13:00), Hall 4, the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

04 MAY 2015: FMRS to participate in the 2015 GEO Work Plan Symposium

FMRS will participate in the 2015 GEO Work Plan Symposium that will take place in Geneva (5-7 May). The main objectives of the meeting are: to assess the progress of the current tasks and the achievements for the first GEO decade (2005-2015), and to discuss current gaps in GEO’s activities and preliminary identify activities to be implemented in the next decade.
